Some cool shapes made in Inkscape ([link]) with the web 2.0 look. I've never done anything like this before so it was pretty much just a test. You can download the .svg file (if you get a page with a picture when you click "download", right-click on the "download" button and select save as. Give it a name and add the extension .svg).

enjoy!

Thanks for the info. I went to the site and it looks cool. Did you have to read the help manual to figure out how to use it?

It's a very easy and self-explanatory program to use. I didn't have to use the help manual, although there are a few helpful tutorials built right into the program that help you to learn the full potential of the program. There's truly endless possibilities of things to do and they make it so easy and accessible!

Thanks. I glanced over the software and it looks fairly simple. Just that I don't see anything that "fills" or "dumps" color. How did you get that effect in your shapes to make them look more dimensional. Any tips?

You can change the fill (and stroke/border for that matter) by selecting the object and clicking object>Fill and Stroke... and playing around with the options there.

To get the dimensional effect, first I gave the main shape a bit of a gradient with the fill and stroke option. then I drew the other shape (the white shapes with the squiggly edge) and gave it a white to white gradient with the alpha value of one side smaller than the other. This gives it the somewhat glossy look. That's about it.

You can download the .svg file by clicking "download" and open it up in Inkscape to see how i did it more clearly.

Hope this helps :) any more questions, feel free to ask! :D

Thanks so much for your help! :)

By the way, I checked out your Freewebs website and I think it's one of the best that I have ever seen!

Most welcome. Not only is it well organized and filled with interesting information and fun items, it is visually striking. You really have a knack for this. Have you considered doing this sort of thing in your future?

Yes, I actually have. I'm really interested in web design/development and plan on doing it at least as a part time job through college and possibly afterwards too. That's what i tell people what i want to do when they ask for my plans for the future. Thanks again for the compliment! :)
